What are
we about?

Sienna Iris Films

was created to inspire.

The name is inspired by the eye colour of the company’s founder Ruby Gibson. Sienna is the name of a reddish-brown colour. The metaphor of the eye colour refers to the goal at the center of the company, which is to tell stories from under-represented voices - such as the voices of people of colour who often carry brown skin and brown eyes.

The mission of the film company is to share a fresh perspective with the world from a deeply authentic place that illuminates connections while dissolving divides.

Hello,

I'm Ruby. I'm a Zimbabwean-born multi-disciplinary artist and designer currently working in the Canadian film & television industry.

As a second generation filmmaker, storytelling is in my blood. I care deeply about the future and I apply my naturally optimistic outlook to all aspects of my work. I believe visual media is one of the most powerful vehicles for change in the present day.

I am thrilled to share new stories with the world.

My Story

I spent my childhood traveling between Zimbabwe and Canada. My father, a geologist, and my mother, a filmmaker, showed me 2 vastly different worlds.  This stark juxtaposition and turbulent transitions left me with a permanent traveler's spirit.

I have worked in marketing, community development, social media, graphic design, film, modeling, acting, teaching painting, and fashion. All those jobs gave me diverse insight into our society and the interconnected nature of the economy. Of all my work experience, the film industry captured my imagination like none of the others. Living in Sudbury as a young adult exposed me to the growing film industry in Northern Ontario. My many artistic skills made me an ideal candidate for many of the entry-level art department jobs. Before long, I built relationships, gained experience, and came into my own as a film professional. Productions that I've worked on include Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, many seasons of the award-winning comedy Letterkenny, and the award-winning drama series Cardinal to name a few. Following the birth of my son, my priorities changed from creating art to creating a life that serves the highest good of my little family.

As an artist, the process of creating is just as important to me as the final product because of the growth that happens in that period. The new leg of my professional journey is to document this ambitious process of building my first (big) tiny home and the personal development that unfolds. The first of many monumental endeavors.
